October 18, 1999 Web-Based Sexual Harassment Prevention Program Developed by Concentrics, Inc., in Partnership with Diversified Business Computers, Inc.
Concentrics, Inc. Los Angeles, CA - An award-winning producer of sexual harassment prevention programs has teamed up with a web-based training provider to create an interactive sexual harassment program for the Internet. The two companies, Concentrics, Inc. of Phoenixville, PA and Diversified Business Computers, Inc. of Fairfield, NJ announced the launch of the distributed learning program at the OnLine Learning '99 Conference and Exposition being held in Los Angeles, CA from October 18 to 21, 1999. Concentrics is an organizational development consulting company serving Fortune 100 clients with programs in managing and developing organizations, while Diversified is a 16-year old company that has evolved into a practice that specializes in providing clients with customized, web-based training solutions. Concentrics President Andrew Mozenter and Diversified President Jeffrey Davidson declared their partnering with each other "a fortuitous combination. We've been in the forefront of web-based learning for the past three years," Davidson said. "During that time I became convinced that sexual harassment prevention was a natural subject for web-based, interactive learning, but we wanted a top content provider to partner with. We found them in Concentrics." Mozenter echoed Davidson's satisfaction. "We've been involved in sexual harassment prevention training since 1990, and we also knew the topic was right for Internet training, but we needed a partner with the Internet know-how." Mozenter said the web-based design will be called Person to Person: Sexual Harassment Prevention.(tm) It will be developed within the larger theme of "Respect in the Workplace," he said, "and will employ some material from our video on sexual harassment prevention which earned five awards, including a Crystal Clarion from Women in Communications." The video has been used by employers nationwide to train thousands of employees. Davidson explained that creating an interactive training program was entirely different from producing a video. "It certainly helps to have scenes from an outstanding video to work with, but this program is very different from the video produced by Concentrics. It will allow the student a self-paced, interactive learning experience, leveraging the latest in multimedia technology." "Creating this was an exciting challenge for us," Andrew Mozenter said, "but the result is a program containing many of the elements of live training programs, which tend to progress at the user's pace, and respond to the individual's need." The first scheduled shipment of the product will run in the IBM / Lotus LearningSpace Distributed Learning Framework. Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a major pharmaceutical manufacturer that uses LearningSpace, has already contracted for the new program to train 8,000 of its employees in sexual harassment prevention. "The Supreme Court," Mozenter said, "has made it clear that employers need to have clear sexual harassment policies, and they need to communicate them to their employees. That strengthens the need for training that is available to every employee, any time, anywhere, but at an economical rate. Our plan is to leverage the web as a vehicle for companies to quickly deploy training throughout their organizations, worldwide, through a browser.
