Phoenixville, PA - The next training course in the Person to Person series of e-learning courses has been announced by Concentrics, Inc. and webLearning.com, the venture partners who produce the series. Entitled Person to Person: Preventing Violence at Work, the new one-hour course provides techniques for reducing the risk of violence in the workplace.

Kim Eberbach, Vice President of Organizational Learning for Concentrics, Inc. of Phoenixville, PA and Jeff Davidson, President of webLearning.com, Fairfield, NJ said the new course will be available for delivery by September, 2000. Eberbach announced that the course is being developed in collaboration with the noted workplace violence expert, Dr. Lauren Wylonis, M.D.

"We are very fortunate that Dr. Wylonis will be lending her expertise and experience to this project," said Ms. Eberbach. "She has done extensive research in the field and conducted numerous seminars on the subject for corporations and law firms."

Jeffrey Davidson, whose firm provides the technical solutions for the Person to Person courses said, "The new course will combine audio, video, and graphic technologies. It will use engaging visual scenes and interactive exercises to teach employees how to prevent violent incidents, and how to respond should they occur. It will be available in both high and low bandwidth versions."

Individual Company Customizing
Person to Person: Preventing Violence at Work will be a customizable course that can be deployed to accommodate various corporate infrastructures. The course will be designed to run through the Internet, on Lotus LearningSpace, corporate intranets, and/or as a hosted solution. It can be delivered to employees at their convenience, anywhere, at any time. Like the other Person to Person courses, Person to Person Preventing Violence at Work will be customized to include a company's violence prevention policies and procedures, delivering a course that fits a company's unique circumstances. The delivery strategy allows for continuous and immediate updates, as company policies change, or new situations are developed.

Survey Indicates Increase in Workplace Violence
Ms. Eberbach points out that workplace violence is a growing concern of employers. She said a 1999 survey by the Society for Human Resource management indicated an 11% increase in reported incidents of workplace violence over a similar survey in 1996. Person to Person: Preventing Violence at Work dispels myths that trigger unfounded fears among employees, while zeroing in on high potential factors. Interactive exercises walk students through different scenarios and learning applications.

Violence Prevention Training Is Important
Employers need to provide violence prevention training for employees and managers because they're potentially liable for harm to employees or others on their work sites under OSHA, workers' compensation, negligent hiring, and other statutes. Also, as corporations become more diverse, the potential for misunderstandings and misinterpretations among employees increases.
